The SMT Field Service Engineer is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing Surface Mount Technology (SMT) products, with a specific focus on producton machinery such as reflow ovens. This role supports business growth through close collaboration with the Sales Division and requires extensive travel within the U.S., with potential for international trips.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Customer Technical Services:
- Consult with customers on equipment and software specifications.
- Verify and negotiate specs with manufacturers.
- Develop test programs and manuals; execute installation, maintenance, and repair services.
- Troubleshoot technical issues; manage escalation procedures.
- Provide training on operation, maintenance, and software.
- Recommend product improvements to manufacturers.
- Oversee machinery logistics.
2. Record Maintenance:
- Maintain service records.
- Prepare internal reports and provide updates to manufacturers.
3. Sales Support:
- Participate in sales meetings and trade shows.
- Provide technical documentation and training to Sales Staff.
- Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and evaluate new equipment.
4. Management Communication:
- Report issues to Supervisors and Managers.
- Participate in meetings as required.
5. Continuous Learning & Process Improvement:
- Pursue certifications; stay current with industry trends.
- Analyze and recommend improvements to work processes.
6. Professional Conduct:
- Maintain professionalism and use established communication channels effectively.
Qualifications:
- Proficient in English for reading, writing, and presentations.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and CAD software.
- Fluency in Japanese and Spanish is preferred.
- Strong reporting, documentation, and customer service skills.
- 3+ years of experience in SMT engineering services.
- Proven experience in working on, troubleshooting, and maintaining production machinery used in the Electronics manufacturing/SMT process, particularly with reflow ovens.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
