Position Summary
The Technical Operator performs hands-on technical work related to fiber optic connectivity and cable management products used primarily in data center applications. These products include single-fiber and multi-fiber optical connectors, fiber optic cables, fiber distribution cabinets and enclosures, panels, and related components.
Working under the direction of Technical Product Specialists and Engineers, this position performs product testing, failure analysis support, fiber optic connection and performance evaluation, prototype preparation, and other technical activities. The ideal candidate is highly observant and curious, with the ability to recognize abnormalities, patterns, and potential issues during hands-on work and clearly communicate findings to engineers.
Key Responsibilities
1. Product Testing and Analysis
- Perform hands-on testing and evaluation of fiber optic connectivity products according to engineering instructions and test procedures.
- Conduct optical performance measurements, including insertion loss and return loss.
- Perform visual and microscopic inspections of connectors, fibers, and other components.
- Support failure analysis by preparing samples, conducting measurements, and documenting observations.
- Record test results accurately and organize data for engineering review.
2. Prototype and Engineering Support
- Prepare and assemble prototypes, test samples, optical connectors, and fiber optic cables.
- Perform fiber optic connection, termination, and evaluation activities.
- Operate measurement instruments, microscopes, and other laboratory equipment.
- Support engineers in product development, design improvement, and verification activities.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, tools, samples, and work areas.
3. Observation and Continuous Improvement
- Carefully observe products and test results and identify abnormalities, trends, or unexpected conditions.
- Communicate observations and technical findings clearly to engineers.
- Suggest potential improvements to test methods, work procedures, or product quality based on hands-on experience.
- Demonstrate curiosity and attention to detail rather than simply following instructions.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Strong hands-on technical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to follow engineering drawings, work instructions, and test procedures.
- Ability to accurately perform measurements and document test results.
- Strong observation and basic analytical skills.
- Ability to use computers for data entry, documentation, and basic data analysis.
- Ability to communicate findings clearly and work effectively with engineers and other team members.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree, technical school education, or vocational training in Engineering Technology, Electronics, Mechanical Technology, or a related field.
- Experience with fiber optic connectors, cables, or connectivity products.
- Experience with optical measurement equipment, microscopes, or laboratory test equipment.
- Experience with fiber optic assembly, connection, termination, or testing.
- Basic understanding of mechanical drawings and measurement techniques.
- Experience in an engineering laboratory, manufacturing, quality, or product testing environment.
- Japanese language skills are a plus.
