On October 7, 2010 TWI hosted a “Sexual Harassment Prevention Seminar” at the Miyako Hybrid Hotel in Torrance.
Presenters for this seminar were Yuhko Simonek from TWI Assist, an International Human Resource Department, along with guest speaker Ted Roper from Freeman, Freeman & Smiley LLP, who has 30 years of experience in the field of law.
Over the course of three hours, the seminar explained the definition of sexual harassment, the financial impact that sexual harassment charges can have against corporations, recent prosecution cases in the United States, the process of filing an incident report when a case of sexual harassment is revealed, responsibilities as management, and details on prevention and ways to take action.
Ted Roper, whose clients are mostly Japanese corporations, discussed past cases of sexual harassment concerning Japanese representatives and was able to answer individual questions brought up by participants at the end of the seminar.
Comments and suggestions from the participants included such as “The seminar was extremely easy to understand for it was presented in Japanese,” and "we are interested a seminar on wrongful termination as a seminar topic.”
